The podcast where we do a little ranting, raving, and wand waving! We’ll be examining witchcraft and spirituality from a modern, fat, feminist perspective; with a cauldron full of sass.

Very Fat Feminist Halloween Special vol. 3 #HowRealWitchesDo

November 2, 2018

Thanks for tuning in to this year’s Very Fat Feminist Halloween Special in which we discuss the stereotypes and archetypes associated with witches that always seem to pop up at Halloween.

In this episode I talk about the #HowRealWitchesDo: Witchcraft Without a Filter (Updated!) photo challenge and how amazing all of the entries were! It was amazing to see how different every entry from every witch was. How different everyone’s practice is. How many tools witches use, and how those witches who don’t use any tools make magick! I narrow in on 3 witch tools with very ancient roots, and how modern witches use them – cauldrons, brooms, and flying wands.

Then we talk about Satanism and the images of the Satanic Witch throughout history – and what satanic witchcraft looks today!

We take a look at Anna Biller’s modern cult classic horror film The Love Witch and one of the unfortunate ways it parallels local pagan and occult communities. This part of the episode discusses sexual assault and abuse allegations, and the way those things have surfaced in the magickal communities, unchecked, for a long time. If you want to learn more about this, visit this post by Sarah Anne Lawless, a Canadian witch who has recently broken her silence on the years of sexual assault and abuse she saw or experienced in her local communities.

Finally, I read a small excerpt from the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic book that influenced the new Netflix tv show.
